About
The 42 is eastern India's tallest building — a 268 m / 65-storey luxury residential tower located at Camac Street in central Kolkata. Operationalised in 2019, the tower is named for its 42 floors of premium residences (above 23 floors of underground + service floors). Eastern India's first true 'supertall' building — significantly taller than the previous tallest Kolkata buildings (~150 m).
The project is a joint venture between Mani Group, Salarpuria Sattva Group, and Diamond Group — among Kolkata's largest real-estate developer alliances. Construction took 8 years (2011-2019). Total floor area ~625,000 sqft across 70 ultra-premium 4-5 BHK apartments.
The design includes a 'Sky Bar' restaurant on the topmost floor + observation deck with 360-degree views of Kolkata. The tower's structural design accounts for Zone IV seismic exposure + high humidity coastal environment requirements.
Key engineering features: reinforced concrete frame structure with central core, 6 high-speed elevators, 200 km/h design wind speed, integrated rainwater harvesting + sewage treatment plant on-site. The Camac Street location (Kolkata's premier commercial district) makes The 42 the de-facto skyline icon for modern Kolkata.
