About
The Statue of Equality is a 66 m tall bronze statue of the 11th-century Hindu philosopher and Vaishnava saint Sri Ramanujacharya — the second-tallest seated statue in the world (after the Buddha at Wuxi, China) and the world's largest panchaloha (five-metal alloy: gold, silver, copper, brass, zinc) statue. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on 5 February 2022 at Shamshabad near Hyderabad, the statue is the centrepiece of a 45-acre temple complex.
The project was conceived and led by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami, a prominent Vaishnavite spiritual leader, with funding from public donations and the trust's own resources. Total cost: ₹1,000 crore. The statue was fabricated in China by Aerosun-Corporation (specialists in large-scale bronze sculpture), then disassembled, shipped to India, and reassembled on site. L&T executed the civil + foundation works.
Key engineering features: - Bronze statue weighs 1,800 tonnes total - Cast in 100+ separate panels and assembled on the steel internal framework - Designed for 200 km/h wind speed + Zone III seismic - Statue stands on a 17 m × 17 m × 27 m granite-clad pedestal called Bhadra Vedi - Surrounded by 108 Divya Desams — replicas of all 108 sacred Vaishnava temples mentioned in Tamil scripture
The 45-acre temple complex includes the integrated Yantra Mandala (a temple that hosts daily rituals), a Vedic learning centre, and a museum on Ramanujacharya's life. The statue and temple complex are positioned to be a major Vaishnava pilgrimage destination — annual visitor traffic averages 5+ million.
