About
Noida International Airport at Jewar (NIA, code DXN) is a greenfield international airport under construction near Greater Noida in western UP — when complete, the world's fourth-largest airport by area (5,000+ hectares) and India's largest airport by passenger capacity (designed for 70 million passengers per year at full build-out).
The airport is operated by Zurich Airport (Flughafen Zürich AG) under a 40-year concession won in 2019 — the first such concession to a foreign operator in Indian airport infrastructure history. The unusual choice of Zurich (over Indian incumbents like GMR/Adani) reflected the UP government's preference for international operational benchmarking + financial backing from Zurich's strong credit profile.
NIAL — the project SPV — was formed in 2018 by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) + Government of UP. Tata Projects is the lead civil contractor with L&T sharing major packages. Phase 1 (1 runway + 1 terminal, ~12 MPPA capacity) total cost: ₹6,000 crore; full build-out (4 runways + 4 terminals, 70 MPPA) over 30 years totalling ₹30,000+ crore.
The airport sits at the heart of Yamuna Expressway industrial corridor and will be served by: dedicated Yamuna Expressway access (existing), pod-taxi system from Greater Noida (planned), and a Greater Noida-Jewar metro line (under sanction). First commercial flight target October 2025, after slippage from earlier 2024 date.
