About

Goa's second international airport — opened December 2022, India's first greenfield airport built within a single 5-year concession-to-operations cycle.
Also known asGOXGoa Mopa AirportManohar International

Mopa International Airport — formally Manohar International Airport (named after the late Goa CM Manohar Parrikar) — is Goa's second international airport, opened in December 2022 to relieve the saturated Dabolim Airport (operated by Indian Navy + civilian carriers, capacity 7 MPPA already exceeded).

Located at Mopa in Pernem taluka of north Goa, the airport is operated by GMR Group under a 40-year concession from the Government of Goa. Phase 1 (single 3.5 km runway + terminal, 4 MPPA capacity) was delivered in record time — concession award 2018, civil construction 2020, first commercial flight December 2022. Total Phase 1 cost: ₹2,870 crore.

The airport's operational distinction is its 4-year construction-to-commissioning cycle (groundbreaking to first flight) — among the fastest greenfield airport delivery records in India. GMR's track record from Hyderabad and Delhi airports is widely credited for this pace.

Mopa is designed for full multimodal connectivity: Goa State Highway 1 access from Panaji, the planned Bhatkal-Pune railway line, and a future cargo rail spur. Together with Dabolim, Goa now has the highest airport-density per capita of any Indian state.

A 2023 design feature: the terminal incorporates traditional Goan-Portuguese architectural elements (azulejo tiles, oxblood-walls accent, Mangalore-tile rooflines) — a deliberate cultural-architecture statement after years of generic glass-and-steel airport design in India.
