IS 3965:2020 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for plywood for concrete shuttering work. IS 3965 specifies plywood for concrete shuttering — must be BWP (Boiling Water Proof) grade to withstand moisture from fresh concrete. Film-faced (phenolic coating) versions give smoother concrete finish and more reuse cycles. Standard thickness is 12mm and 18mm.
Specification for plywood specifically designed for use as concrete shuttering/formwork, covering construction, bonding, dimensions, mechanical properties, and surface quality.
BWP (Boiling Water Proof) grade per IS 3965. Film-faced BWP plywood is preferred for smooth finish and more reuse cycles. NEVER use MR or commercial grade.
How many times can shuttering plywood be reused?+
Film-faced BWP: 50-80 cycles with proper handling and oiling. Non-film-faced BWP: 10-20 cycles. Actual life depends on handling, cleaning, and oiling between uses.
