About
Krishnapatnam Industrial City is the southernmost major node of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Andhra Pradesh's flagship industrial development project — a 12,000-acre integrated industrial city under construction near Krishnapatnam Port in Nellore district. Sanctioned in 2017 and under construction since 2018, the city is targeted for operational status by 2026.
The project is executed by Krishnapatnam Industrial City Development Corporation (KIIDCO) — a joint venture between DMIC Development Corporation (DMICDC) and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). Total investment: ₹8,000 crore for Phase 1 (Phases 2-3 would add another ₹8,000-10,000 crore).
The distinctive feature is integration with the adjacent Krishnapatnam Port (Adani Ports) — providing dedicated rail + road access from industrial plots directly to the port's container + bulk cargo terminals. This 'port-anchored industrial city' model is among the first at this scale in India.
Major anchor tenants under negotiation include: Hindalco (aluminum smelter expansion), Aditya Birla Group (cement + chemicals), JSW Group (steel), and several Korean + Japanese OEMs in the auto components cluster. Targeted employment: 100,000 workers at full operationalization.
