IS 996:2019 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for single phase small ac and universal electric motors. IS 996 covers single phase motors up to 750W — the motors in ceiling fans, water pumps, washing machines, mixer grinders, and other domestic/light commercial equipment. ISI mark is mandatory. Covers capacitor start, capacitor run, and universal motor types.

Capacitor-run single phase induction motor per IS 996. Typically 60-80W rating at 230V/50Hz. Modern BLDC fans use a different motor technology (not covered by IS 996).
