IS 427:2020 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for wrought copper and copper alloy tubes for general engineering. IS 427 covers copper and copper alloy tubes for plumbing, HVAC refrigerant lines, heat exchangers, medical gas, and general engineering. DHP copper (deoxidized, high phosphorus) is the standard for plumbing and refrigeration. Copper tubes are naturally antimicrobial and corrosion resistant.
Specification for seamless and welded copper and copper alloy tubes for general engineering, plumbing, and heat exchanger applications.

What type of copper tube for AC refrigerant lines?+
DHP copper (C12200), annealed (soft), in ACR (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) grade — clean, capped, and charged with nitrogen. Available in coils. Common sizes: 1/4" (6.35mm) and 3/8" (9.52mm) for residential AC.
Copper tube vs CPVC for plumbing?+
Copper: more expensive, longer life (50+ years), can handle hot water, antimicrobial, recyclable. CPVC: cheaper, easier installation (solvent cement), adequate for 25-30 years, lighter. Copper is premium; CPVC is standard in Indian residential construction.
