Most petrol pumps use 10 kL or 20 kL underground horizontal tanks (IS 1520). Multiple tanks are used for different fuel types (petrol, diesel, premium).
How is an underground petroleum tank protected from corrosion?+
Cathodic protection (sacrificial anodes or impressed current), coal tar epoxy external coating, and fibreglass wrapping. IS 1520 specifies minimum earth cover of 900mm.
