IS 10001:2017 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for large washer (structural) for steel structures. IS 10001 covers structural washers used with HSFG (High Strength Friction Grip) bolts per IS 3757. Larger and thicker than ordinary washers to distribute bolt load over the connection surface. Hardened to prevent relaxation under bolt pre-tension.

Regular washers (IS 2016) are too thin, too soft, and too small. Structural washers (IS 10001) are larger (distribute load), thicker, and hardened (30-40 HRC) to withstand the high pre-tension of HSFG bolts without deformation.
