- Surface excavation 2.1.1 covers shallow strip < 300 mm deep; if footpath sits on existing road sub-grade, this item may be reduced or skipped manually.
- PCC 1:5:10 is the lean concrete base course; for heavy-vehicle-access pavers (8 cm M-35) bump base to 150 mm + grade to 1:4:8 (DSR 4.1.8).
- Sand cushion is 40 mm fine sand on top of PCC, providing levelling + load-distribution to paver blocks per IS 15658 Cl. 7.3.
- Paver block rate 16.68 (60 mm M-30) includes laying + jointing sand; the 80 mm M-35 grade (DSR 8785) is recommended for vehicle-access driveways.
- Kerb stones are 300×300 mm cross-section (typical CPWD M-25 precast) — volume = length × cross-section. For mountable kerb, use a slimmer profile.
- Excludes: surface drainage / gully gratings (separate trade), tactile paving (yellow ribbed tile for accessibility — DSR 16.X), street furniture, line marking.
**Paver-block footpaths** are the workhorse of urban India — every Smart City project, AMRUT-funded urban improvement, panchayat road-development scheme and society compound installs them. The 60 mm M-30 concrete interlocking paver block on 40 mm sand cushion over 100 mm PCC base with precast kerb stones is the CPWD-standard footpath cross-section. This BOQ Builder generates the complete cost per running metre per CPWD DSR 2023 — surface excavation, PCC base, sand cushion, paver block (M-30 standard or M-35 heavy-duty), kerb stones on either edge — and an Excel download.
What's in a standard paver-block footpath BOQ
Five items — that's it. A footpath is dimensionally one of the simplest civil structures: (1) **Surface excavation 2.1.1** at ₹129.85/m² for shallow excavation up to 300 mm depth; (2) **PCC 1:5:10 base 4.1.10** at ₹6,518.60/m³ for the 75-100 mm lean concrete bed; (3) **Sand cushion 2.27** at ₹2,123.75/m³ for the 40 mm fine-sand levelling course; (4) **Paver block 16.68** at ₹972/m² for the 60 mm M-30 interlocking blocks (includes laying + jointing sand per IS 15658); (5) **Kerb stones 16.69** at ₹10,117.60/m³ for the precast M-25 concrete edges (150×300 mm typical section). For a standard 100 m × 2 m footpath at CPWD DSR 2023 rates, total ≈ ₹4.5-4.7 lakh — roughly **₹4,500-4,700 per running metre** for a 2 m wide path with kerbs both sides + 100 mm PCC base. A narrower 1.5 m wide path with single-edge kerb is closer to ₹2,800-3,200 per running metre. Paver block + kerb stones together account for ~60% of cost; PCC base ~25%; the rest is sand + excavation.
When to bump up to heavy-duty (80 mm M-35) pavers
60 mm M-30 paver blocks (the default) handle pedestrian footpaths, society compounds, cycle tracks and light vehicle access (occasional car/SUV). For **driveways with regular car/SUV/light commercial vehicle access** — bump to 80 mm M-35 (DSR 8785) at ₹484/m² basic-rate (₹500-600/m² installed). For **heavy commercial vehicle access** (trucks, fork-lifts, fire-tender access) — bump to 100 mm M-40 with PCC base increased to 150 mm of M-15 grade (DSR 4.1.5 / 4.1.6) or use cement-concrete rigid pavement per IRC 58 instead. The 60 mm paver is rated for up to 25 kN axle load per IS 15658; 80 mm goes up to 60 kN; 100 mm up to 100 kN.
Kerb stones — when to use both edges vs one
Both edges of footpath need kerbs only if the footpath is **adjacent to roadway on both sides** (median walkway, between two carriageways) or **at level with surrounding paved area** (society compound paving). For typical road-edge footpath: ONE kerb (road side, mountable type for accessibility); the building-side edge is usually a wall or grass strip and needs no kerb. For shared-use paths or hardscapes within a plot, kerbs may be omitted entirely. Toggle the form's checkbox to switch.
