About Karnataka Urban Water Supply & Drainage Board
KUWS&DB covers water-supply and sewerage infrastructure for non-Bengaluru urban Karnataka — Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Mandya, Hassan, Kolar, Chikkamagaluru and 300+ other urban centres. The SOR scope: intake structures (river/tank), raw-water transmission, urban water-treatment plants, distribution networks, household connections, sewerage trunk mains, sewage treatment plants, and city-wide sanitation (UGD = Underground Drainage). JJM-Urban Karnataka and AMRUT 2.0-Karnataka work uses this SOR. The latest 2024 edition supersedes 2021-22; engineers should verify which is in force at tender opening date.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between KUWS&DB and BWSSB?
BWSSB is the Bengaluru-specific water-supply utility. KUWS&DB covers all other 316 urban areas of Karnataka. Both have separate SORs because Bengaluru's congested-urban scope and KUWS&DB's spread of mid-tier cities have different cost structures.
Is KPWD SOR Vol 5 (Water Supply) the same as KUWS&DB SOR?
No. KPWD CSR Vol 5 covers BWSSB rates. KUWS&DB SOR is for non-Bengaluru urban water-supply. They overlap in technical content but differ in regional cost basis.
What about rural water-supply in Karnataka?
Rural water-supply (JJM-Karnataka rural component) is implemented via Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department referencing KPWD CSR Vol 4 (WRD/MI) plus CPHEEO Manual.
How often is KUWS&DB SOR revised?
Annually. The 2024 edition is current; 2021-22 was the previous canonical reference. Engineers should always verify which edition is in force on the tender opening date.
Does this cover sewerage?
Yes — UGD (Underground Drainage) including sewer mains, manholes, lift stations, sewage treatment plants. Combined civic-utility tendering for water + sewerage uses this SOR for both scopes.
