IS 292:2009 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for phosphor bronze ingots and castings. IS 292 covers phosphor bronze — a Cu-Sn-P alloy known for excellent spring properties, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance. Used for springs, electrical contacts, bearings, gears, and bellows where both strength and corrosion resistance are needed.
Specification for phosphor bronze ingots and castings covering grades, chemical composition, mechanical properties, and quality requirements.

What is the difference between phosphor bronze (IS 292) and leaded tin bronze (IS 318)?+
Phosphor bronze has phosphorus instead of lead — better spring properties and fatigue strength. Leaded bronze has better machinability and bearing properties. Use phosphor bronze for springs/contacts, leaded bronze for bearings/bushings.
