When a habitable room opens onto a verandah, the verandah blocks direct light and air. NBC limits verandah depth to 2.40 m so the room behind still gets enough daylight and ventilation through the room-to-verandah opening.
Common in older bungalows and village house typologies. Modern apartments use balconies (treated as projections) instead of verandahs.
