Why this matters

1.20 m fits a standard wheelchair (700 mm) plus side clearance for the user's elbows and a margin to avoid scraping the rails. Below this, users contact the rails on every push.

Typical practice

Most accessible ramps provide 1.20–1.50 m. Commercial entries with significant accessible traffic go to 1.80 m.
