Structural Engineering is the highest-weightage subject in GATE CE (20-25%), covering mechanics, strength of materials, structural analysis, RCC design (IS 456), steel design (IS 800), and prestressed concrete (IS 1343). Questions range from BMD/SFD problems and Mohr's circle analysis to limit state design of beams, columns, and slabs. The moment distribution method, influence lines, and matrix methods are perennial favourites. Steel connection design (bolts and welds) and seismic detailing (IS 13920) are increasingly tested.
