IS 7888:1996 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for glazed stoneware pipes and fittings. IS 7888 covers salt-glazed stoneware pipes for sewerage and drainage. Stoneware is chemically inert (acid/alkali resistant) making it ideal for industrial effluent drainage. Being replaced by PVC/HDPE in modern construction but still specified for chemical resistance.
