IS 5182:2018 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for methods of measurement of air pollution. IS 5182 is a multi-part standard for ambient air quality and stack emission monitoring. Referenced by CPCB/SPCB for all air quality monitoring in India. Part 12 (PM10/PM2.5) is the most commonly used for construction site air quality compliance.
Multi-part standard providing methods for measurement of various air pollutants including SPM, SO2, NOx, CO, and particulate matter.

Practical Notes
! Construction sites must monitor PM10 per CPCB norms — IS 5182 Part 12 is the approved method.
! Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies reference IS 5182 for all ambient air quality measurements.
! 24-hour average PM10 should not exceed 100 µg/m³ per NAAQS.

National Ambient Air Quality Standards
Both define air pollutant measurement methods. US EPA uses reference methods parallel to IS 5182 methods.
Key Differences
≠ IS 5182 uses some manual/wet chemistry methods. US EPA has moved primarily to continuous electronic monitors.
Key Similarities
≈ Both cover SO2, NOx, CO, PM10, PM2.5 — the standard criteria pollutants.
