IS 3224:2002 is the Indian Standard (BIS) for corrugated fibre cement sheets. IS 3224 covers corrugated fibre cement sheets (formerly called AC sheets) for roofing and cladding. Modern versions are asbestos-free, using cellulose or synthetic fibres instead. Widely used for industrial sheds, warehouses, and low-cost housing roofing in India.
Specification for corrugated fibre cement sheets (asbestos-free) for roofing and cladding, covering types, dimensions, strength, and weathering requirements.
No. Modern IS 3224 compliant sheets use cellulose or synthetic fibres (asbestos-free). However, older sheets (pre-2010) manufactured under earlier editions may contain asbestos — verify before demolition.
What is the effective cover width?+
Standard sheet is 1050mm wide but effective cover is 920mm (one corrugation overlap with adjacent sheet). Always calculate roofing area using effective width, not full width.
