IS 2500:2017 (Part 1) is the Indian Standard (BIS) for sampling inspection procedures — part 1: attribute sampling plans indexed by aql. IS 2500 provides acceptance sampling plans indexed by AQL (Acceptable Quality Level). It tells you how many samples to inspect and how many defects are acceptable to accept or reject a lot. Adopted from ISO 2859-1. Used across all manufacturing and construction quality control.
Sampling procedures for inspection by attributes, providing single, double, and multiple sampling plans indexed by acceptable quality level (AQL).
AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) is the maximum percentage of defective items considered acceptable as a process average. It is NOT the defect rate you accept in each lot — it's a statistical concept.
What is the difference between IS 2500 and IS 4905?+
IS 4905 covers HOW to select random samples. IS 2500 covers how many samples, what accept/reject numbers to use, and what AQL to target.
