IS 10146 covers PE pipes for water supply — the most widely used plastic pipe material in India for water distribution. PE100 grade PN10 (10 bar) is the standard for municipal water supply. Pipes range from 20mm to 630mm diameter.
Specification for polyethylene (PE) pipes for water supply covering material, dimensions, pressure ratings, and testing requirements.

Practical Notes
! PE100 is the standard grade for municipal water supply — PE80 is being phased out.
! HDPE pipes must be joined by butt fusion or electrofusion — NOT mechanical compression fittings for pressure above PN6.
! Pipes must be protected from UV during storage — cover with opaque material on site.
! Blue stripe indicates potable water. Yellow = gas. No stripe = drainage/non-potable.
