  • Rates sourced from MJP SSR 2023-24 (with 2024-25 escalation column). 5 corrigenda dated up to 20-Dec-2024 exist (mjp.maharashtra.gov.in publications page) but are scanned-image PDFs in Marathi requiring manual review for tender-grade use. For cost feasibility this Builder is good as-is; for tender submission, cross-check each item against the latest corrigendum.
  • JJM Village Water Supply Scheme typically specs a 150 mm borewell + 5 HP pump for ~350 households. Smaller hamlets (50-100 HH) use 3 HP; larger panchayats (500+ HH) use 7.5 HP.
  • Borewell depth varies dramatically by region. Coastal Tamil Nadu: 30-60 m. Punjab / Haryana: 100-180 m. Rajasthan / Karnataka hard-rock: 150-250 m. Always do a 24-hour pumping test before sizing the pump.
  • Casing pipe specification: MS heavy-duty for depths > 60 m or hard-rock formations (NB 6 or 8 thickness, IS 4270). uPVC (IS 12818 / IS 4985) is cheaper but limited to 60-80 m and soft strata.
  • PHED rates for borewell drilling vary HUGELY by state — Tamil Nadu TWAD: ₹800-1200/m for 150 mm borewell; UP Jal Nigam: ₹500-800/m; Maharashtra MJP: ₹900-1400/m. Always verify with local PHED schedule.
  • Submersible pump cost depends on brand + duty point. KSB / Texmo / CRI 5 HP single-phase: ₹40-55k. 3-phase: ₹35-45k. Include 5-year warranty + AMC in the rate.
  • Submersible cable (3-core flat) is measured = bore depth + 5 m above-ground termination. Cable size scales with pump kW: 2.5 mm² for 3 HP, 4 mm² for 5 HP, 6 mm² for 7.5 HP, 10 mm² for 10 HP+.
  • Excludes: control panel + starter + capacitor (~₹15-25k for 5 HP); MCB / RCCB / earthing arrangement; concrete foundation for control panel; protective housing / pump house (typically separate ₹40-80k brick structure); electrical connection charges from DISCOM (varies).

Over 95% of village schemes use groundwater via borewells; the remaining 5% use surface water (river / canal intake). Sizing the borewell for a village water supply scheme

**Step 1**: estimate water demand per CPHEEO Manual = households × 5 persons/HH × 135 lpcd × 8-hour pumping × 1.10 system loss = required hourly yield in litres. **Step 2**: hydrogeological survey to find sustainable yield + safe drawdown — typically 24-hour pumping test. **Step 3**: select pump duty point on H-Q curve at the required head (= static lift + dynamic lift + delivery pipe friction + tank inlet height). **Step 4**: select casing depth equal to top loose-strata depth (typically 15-40 m). **Step 5**: spec pump make + model with 25% safety margin on flow + matched submersible cable size.

Single-phase vs three-phase pump selection

**Single-phase** (up to 3 HP / 2.2 kW) — runs on the standard 230 V village supply. Cheap, available, but limited to 30 m head with reasonable flow. **Three-phase** (4 HP / 3 kW and above) — needs 415 V supply (DISCOM has to provide separate connection). More efficient, handles higher head, longer pump life. For JJM, three-phase is standard for ≥ 5 HP installations. Most village schemes are 5 HP / 7.5 HP three-phase.
