- **Minor RCC T-Beam Bridge** = the standard 15-30 m bridge between slab culvert (≤ 12 m) and major bridge (> 30 m). Per IRC 21 + IRC 78 spec, simply-supported RCC T-beam spans on RCC abutments + intermediate piers, with deck slab cast monolithic.
- **Span configuration**: 1-span 15-18 m for short crossings, 2-span 16-22 m, 3-span 21-30 m (standard). Single-span > 18 m needs PSC girders (use [PSC Girder Bridge](/boq/psc-girder-bridge) template) — RCC T-beam becomes uneconomic.
- **T-beam girder**: depth = span/12 to span/15 (e.g., 10 m span → 0.7-0.85 m depth). Web 300 mm; flange = deck slab. Steel ratio ~200 kg/m³ in girders, ~100 kg/m³ in deck slab. Default 1.2 m depth covers 10-12 m spans comfortably.
- **Foundation**: shallow open-foundation pad 5.0 m wide × 1.0 m thick assumed (SBC ≥ 200 kN/m²). For poor SBC, switch to pile foundation — separate scope (well/pile foundations add ₹15-25L per support).
- **Live load** per IRC 6: Class 70R for NH/SH bridges, Class A for MDR/rural. Default design covers both.
- **Wearing coat** on deck: 75 mm Bituminous Macadam typical, sometimes 60 mm Mastic Asphalt for waterproofing.
- **Cost target** for default 3-span × 24 m × 8.4 m wide bridge: approximately **₹65-85 lakh** civil + structural per CPWD DSR 2023 (excluding GST + contractor profit). State PWD rates 10-15 % below DSR. **NHAI/MoRTH minor-bridge unit cost**: ₹1.5-2 Cr for similar size (covers civil + foundation testing + 3rd-party audit + bearings + signage).
- **Excludes**: river-protection works (gabions, launching apron); rock excavation if any; pile foundation if soft soil; navigation lighting (large rivers); utility cables / OFC across deck; toll plaza approaches (if part of tolled NH); fenders for piers in navigation zones; instrumentation (load cells, settlement monitoring).
The **Minor RCC T-Beam Bridge (15-30 m total length, 1-3 spans)** is the standard small-bridge type in Indian road infrastructure — every state highway, district road, and minor NH stretch has dozens of these crossing seasonal streams + small rivers. Per **IRC 21 (Concrete Bridges) + IRC 78 (Foundations & Substructure)**, the construction uses RCC abutments + intermediate piers + simply-supported RCC T-beam girders + monolithic deck slab + elastomeric bearings + expansion joints. Default 3-span × 8 m × 8.4 m wide bridge totals ~24 m length. Cost ~₹65-85L civil per CPWD DSR 2023; NHAI unit cost ₹1.5-2 Cr including bearings + audit. This BOQ Builder generates the complete per-bridge cost configurable for 15-30 m length and 1-3 spans.
When to use RCC T-Beam vs PSC vs Slab Culvert
**Slab culvert** ([Slab Culvert template](/boq/slab-culvert)) — 4-12 m single span, RCC deck slab directly on abutments, no separate girders. Simplest + cheapest. **RCC T-beam bridge** (this template) — 15-30 m total in 1-3 spans of 6-12 m each, RCC girders + deck slab + intermediate piers if multi-span. Standard for SH/MDR streams. **PSC girder bridge** ([PSC Girder Bridge](/boq/psc-girder-bridge)) — 30-60 m spans single or multi, pre-stressed I-girders, lighter superstructure. Standard for NH + major SH. **Cost ladder**: slab culvert ₹8-15L per span; RCC T-beam ₹65-85L for 24 m total; PSC ₹2-4 Cr per 40 m span; major bridges (steel truss, cable-stayed) ₹5-50 Cr per span.
T-Beam girder design rationale
**Why T-beam shape**: cast-in-situ RCC girders use the deck slab as the upper flange (no separate top flange needed) → economical use of concrete. Web 300 mm wide × depth determined by span (span/12 to span/15 for simply-supported). For 10 m span: web 300 × 800 mm + slab top flange 200 mm. **Steel ratio** in girders ~200 kg/m³ — much higher than columns (200-250 kg/m³) because of high bending moment under live load. **Girder count** per span: 3 for single-lane, 4 for 1.5-2 lane (standard), 5 for wide deck. Spacing 1.5-2.5 m c/c. **Deck slab** 200 mm RCC cast monolithic with girders — acts as flange (T-beam composite) + carriageway surface (after wearing coat).
